Description
Living Collection. Two collections: one, a collection of 4,000 mutant strains of Neurospora crassa related to the regulation of genetic recombination; and two, a collection of 250 microorganisms able to catabolise low rank coal. (Cultures held: 4,250 mutant lines relevant to molecular genetic research; established c. 1971; 0 staff, but represents the output of 100 person-years of work).
National and international significance: 4,500 strains of Neurospora crassa, the most comprehensive collection that exists of genotypes relevant to the molecular genetics of recombination.
