The University of Seoul Museum opened on September 4, 1984 for the purposes of surveying, collecting, preserving and exhibiting the valuable cultural properities of Korea. The museum is equally dedicated to supporting educational activities of university undergraduates, and providing community residents with a cultural ground.
The museum reserves about 4,700 artifacts from the prehistoric period to the modern era, including constructions tools and palanquins in the Joseon Era and data concerning life and economy history in the 20th century, respectively. In particular, the museum systematically collects and exhibits data in the pre-modern eras, which other museums tend to ignore, and is dedicated to establishing its unique identity among the museums that specialize in pre-modern and modern period data.
