The Zoological Museum of the University of Athens is the oldest and richest zoological museum of Greece. It is part of the National Natural History Museum that is the oldest natural history museum in the eastern Mediterranean and the Balkans.
The collections of the Museum include: approximately 500 small and large mammals form Greece, Europe and other continents, stuffed or as skeletons. 2500 birds from Greece, together with eggs and nests. A large collection of approximately 1000 reptiles, amphibians and fish of Greece and other parts of the world. Insects and mollusks together with other invertebrates such as sponges, crustaceans, corals etc. Last but not least the Museum collections contain a large number of anthropological material, mainly skulls, some of which show paleopathological symptoms.
