The Mokpo National University Museum was established to recognize the University's growing responsibilities as a cultural center. Advanced research and academic investigation of cultural materials and artifacts inspire the Korean Spirit in students, staff, and faculty. An open learning environment is maintained for our regional society. . The Museum contains the means to collect, preserve, and exhibit our nation's materials and artifacts of history, archaeology, and folk culture. This supports the social education program offered by the university. Besides researching and excavating artifacts, the museum is especially active in collecting and analyzing historical and cultural materials, trying to prevent the disappearance of folk culture and customs in the area of the southwestern coastal region. As a result of these activities, the museum is currently acquiring approximately four thousand materials of archeology, including many historical and artistic artifacts. Seventy research reports are also published already. Recently the museum has increased exchange and joint research activities with other institutions.
